[Guest Blog] Resolving a 8.5 server crash caused by adminp

September 10, 2009 – 1:32 pm

Yesterday I had a Domino 8.5 FP1 w64 server crash and was later on analyzing the nsd and dmp files.

In the nsd file I found out that the faulting thread was the adminp process and got some other interesting information about the creation of mailfiles while the server crashed. Yes, indeed, I just registered a set of new users (3) on the administration server and a few minutes later the homemail server for these new users crashed.
I opened a PMR for this problem and got today the answer that this is a known issue in Domino 8.5 (also FP1) and resolved in SPR # BYAU7Q9HLB (which is not public) and is fixed in Domino 8.5.1.

Problem seems to be the function “Create Mailfile in background” – if you disable this it will be okay. Currently there is no hotfix for this problem available.

Check also the public APAR LO38761 for this issue with more detailed information about this bug.

  2. We ran into this a while ago. I’m surprised the fix didn’t make it into FP1.

There is a hotfix for it. We have it installed although it is for Domino on iSeries.
